The league tournament for professional football clubs in France is known as the French Ligue 1 (French: Championnat de France de football or (French: Ligue 1). It is regarded as one of the top leagues in the world and was founded in 2002 with its current structure. Lille won the inaugural season of the French Ligue 1 in 1932–1933. Till 1939, the league was still active. The Second World War caused it to halt, but it was later brought back in 1945 once the war was over and Lille Club won, thus it has continued ever since. With ten trophies, Saint-Etienne is the most successful club, followed by Olympique Marseille with nine, and Paris Saint-Germain, with its ninth title, as the current champion.

v  Olympique Lille was the first team to win the championship in 1932–1933.

v  Saint-Etienne, which won the title ten times, is the team with the most championships.

v  Olympique Lyonnais, who won the championship seven times in a row from the 2001–2002 season to the 2007–2008 season, is the team with the longest winning streak.

v  Nantes set the record for the most games without a loss in a season when it went unbeaten in 32 games during the 1994–1995 campaign.

v  Strasbourg set a record for the greatest streak of unbeaten play, going 38 games throughout the two seasons from 1977 to 1979.

v  From May 15, 1976, until April 7, 1981, Nantes went 98 games without losing at home, which is the longest streak ever for a team.

v  Stade Reims in the 1959–1960 season, Monaco in the 1960–1961 season, and Nantes in the 1965–1966 and 1979–1980 seasons, each with 26 victories, are the teams with the most victories in a single season.

v  The championship was first won by Paris Saint-Germain in the 30th round of the 2015–16 season, and was then swiftly followed by Olympique Lyonnais in the 33rd round of the 2006–07 campaign.
